Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about AverageDay, from setup to billing.

Getting Started

How do I add AverageDay to my Slack workspace?

Click "Add to Slack" on our homepage or get-started page. You'll need workspace admin permissions to install apps. After installation, use the /settings command to configure your teams and settings.

What permissions does AverageDay need?

AverageDay needs permission to send direct messages to team members and read basic profile information (name, timezone) for scheduling personalized check-ins. We never access message content or private conversations.

How many team members do I need?

You can install AverageDay with any number of team members, but you need at least 3 people on a team to see aggregated sentiment data. This ensures complete anonymity of responses.

Can I customize when check-ins are sent?

Yes! The default is 5:00 PM in each user's timezone, but individuals can customize their reminder time through the settings dashboard. Admins can also adjust the default time for new team members.

Privacy & Anonymity

How is anonymity guaranteed?

Individual responses are never shown to anyone, including admins. Each daily report gets a unique anonymous ID that's not linked to your Slack identity. Team data only appears when 3+ members submit responses.

Can admins see my individual responses?

No, absolutely not. Admins can only see aggregated team data and only when at least 3 team members have responded on the same day. Individual responses are completely private and anonymous.

What happens to my data if I leave the team?

Your individual responses remain anonymous in the system and continue contributing to historical team averages. Since responses are not linked to your identity, they cannot be removed retroactively, ensuring the integrity of team data.

Where is my data stored?

Data is encrypted and stored on secure servers in the United States using SOC 2 compliant infrastructure. We follow industry best practices for data security and privacy.

Daily Check-ins

What are the three questions?

  1. How was your day?
  2. How do you feel about your team's workload?
  3. How do you feel about tomorrow?

Each question uses a 1-5 scale with descriptive labels (e.g., Terrible to Great).

What if I miss a daily check-in?

No problem! Missed check-ins don't affect anything negatively. The system tracks participation rates, and partial responses (answering some but not all questions) are still counted toward team averages.

How long do I have to respond?

You have 24 hours to complete your check-in. The questions remain active until the next day's prompt is sent. After that, the previous day's questions expire.

Can I change my responses after submitting?

You can update your responses for the current day's questions until they expire (when the next day's prompt is sent). After that, responses are locked to maintain data integrity.

Billing & Pricing

How much does AverageDay cost?

AverageDay costs $1 per team member per month. You're billed monthly based on the number of active users in your workspace. We offer a 14-day free trial to get started.

When does billing start?

After your 14-day free trial ends. Users are counted toward billing as soon as they're added to your workspace. When users are removed, they're immediately removed from billing.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, you can cancel your subscription at any time with no cancellation fees. Service continues until the end of your current billing period, and no further charges will occur.

Do you offer discounts for large teams?

Currently, we use simple per-user pricing. For organizations with 100+ users, contact our sales team at sales@averageday.com to discuss custom pricing.

Team Management

How do I set up teams?

Use the /settings command in Slack to access your dashboard. Workspace admins can create teams and assign members. Each person can only be on one team at a time.

Can someone be on multiple teams?

No, each team member can only be assigned to one team at a time. This constraint helps maintain clear team boundaries and ensures accurate sentiment reporting.

Who can manage teams and settings?

Slack workspace owners automatically become AverageDay admins. Additional admins can be designated by existing admins. Admins can manage teams, user assignments, and question settings.

What happens when a team becomes too small?

If a team drops below 3 members, new sentiment data won't be displayed on the dashboard to maintain anonymity. However, historical data from when the team had 3+ members remains visible.
